Almost immediately, our flawed hero is faced with a dilemma: should he get sucked back into the violent world of crime alongside Winstone’s cringing subordinate Billy (Ben Chaplin) or become a gallant minder to reclusive and vulnerable superstar Charlotte, played by Keira Knightley Wholesale Dennis Johnson Jersey , protecting her against the paparazzi in classy Holland Park 鈥?and generally get stuck into a bit of a Costner-Houston situation? It’s a film with plenty of front, as they say, but uses up all its energy, wit and ideas in the first 20 or so minutes, before collapsing into a flurry of boring violence. There’s an interesting touch of the Brit geezer capers of 40 years ago, with Mitch being the bit of rough to Charlotte’s touch of class. Monahan demonstrated his handle on the nature of those prone to hot tempers and sudden violence in Martin Scorsese鈥檚 The Departed, and he brings along Ray Winstone from that film as a touchstone in the role of a gang-leader named Gant. Farrell gives his most measured performance yet as Mitchell, a frighteningly ruthless hard man whose three-year term in prison has prompted an urge for redemption Wholesale Walter Brown Jersey , and who turns down Gant鈥檚 offer of work.

Unlike Norma Desmond, the last thing Charlotte wants is another close-up. Bruen鈥檚 story Wholesale Robert Parish Jersey , adapted sharply by Monahan, complicates her self-obsession with the matter-of-fact danger brought about by Mitchell鈥檚 dangerous past and present.
For Charlotte to be photographed means personal invasion, for Mitchell to be photographed with her after he runs afoul of Gant could mean death for both of them. Not to mention Mitchell鈥檚 tramp of a sister, played with mischievous guile by Anna Friel. She matches Thewlis in going to the top but not over it as characters that can only exist in crime stories but are nonetheless great fun.
Winsto ole is a familiar one but it is testament to his screen authority that he makes his hoodlum genuinely scary, and it to Farrel credit that when they go nose to nose, he gives the veteran a run for his money.
